Professor Kilby is presently Lead Clinician of Fetal Medicine responsible for the administrative running of the Fetal Medicine Centre at the Birmingham Women's Hospital and has been appointed so since 1998.
He was elected onto the Council of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, as the Member representative for the West Midlands, in 2002 and will serve until 2007.He is the elected Fetal Medicine representative on the Executive Committee of the British Society of Maternal and Fetal Medicine. He is a member of the Perinatal Research Society of the USA, International fetoscopy Working Group, Society of Maternal & Fetal Medicine in USA and Society of Gynecological Investigation in the USA.
Professor Kilby's clinical special expertise is in prenatal diagnosis, fetal anomalies, fetal therapy and intrauterine growth restriction. He has published over 120 peer reviewed original articles on topics relating to fetal medicine and in the basic science of maternal and fetal physiology relating to his subspecialty.
After qualification from Guy’s Hospital Medical School in 1984, he performed my house jobs in London and at Guy’s Hospital. He was then attached to junior obstetric and gynaecological posts in Nottingham and the West Midlands. After a sabbatical at the University of Toronto in Canada (Fetal Medicine Centre, Mount Sinai Hospital), he was accredited in general Obstetrics and Gynaecology from the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in 1995. After further training in Birmingham, he obtained full specialty accreditation in Maternal and Fetal Medicine in 1996.
