    Case Studies

We can arrange for journalists to speak to variety of women whose lives have been touched by problems with their reproductive health.

Below are some sample case studies - contact us if you would like us to provide you with further examples.

    Jo's story

"I'm 32 and married. I was diagnosed with PCOS three years ago but only after six years with symptoms and after I'd researched my own symptoms myself and mentioned PCOS to the specialist I'd been referred to. I don't know whether he would have come to the same conclusion eventually - but I hope so! Once I'd been diagnosed, I realised that I had actually had the symptoms for years. I want children but am desperate to lose all the weight I've put on as a result of the PCOS first. Not enough is known about it - it's still a hidden health problem."

    Dawn's story
Following the birth of her daughter Georgina, Dawn Sewell became pregnant again a year later. Jenni weighed just 1lb 4oz at birth and underwent five operations at Great Ormond Street Hospital, but sadly she died in Dawn's arms when just a few months old. In May 1997 a further pregnancy ended when the 12-week scan revealed that the baby had died. The tragedy continued with another pregnancy a year later - Stephanie weighed just 1lb and died shortly afterwards. Finally, in July 1999 Dawn was referred to the Recurrent Miscarriage Unit at St Mary's Hospital in London, whose research has been funded in the past by Wellbeing of Women. Staff diagnosed that Dawn had an incompetent cervix, polycystic ovaries and excess blood clotting. A further pregnancy went ahead, supported by regular applications of anti-clotting drugs and a cervical stitch at fifteen weeks. Thankfully Chloe was born by Caesarean section, a second and healthy daughter for the family.
