    Annual Women's Lunch Debate

On Thursday 31st January, 200 of Britain’s most influential women met at the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG) to discuss and debate the health issues that most affect women today.

Journalist and broadcaster Fiona Bruce introduced the key speakers of the day, starting with a very rousing speech from Patron of Wellbeing of Women Sarah Brown. She explained her pride in the charity and the importance of empowering women to be able to make educated choices about their health.

Each of the tables were encouraged to discuss a single question: “What women’s health problem do you want solved?”

Before the discussion began, Professor Lesley Regan, recurrent miscarriage and infertility expert, spoke about the achievements of Wellbeing of Women during its 44-year campaign. The research that we have funded has led to many of the treatments and technological advancements that we now take for granted during childbirth from oral contraception in the 60s to CT scanning in the 90s. And the noughties have already seen new advances in fetal surgery.

Eve Pollard, Vice-Chairman of Wellbeing of Women, stepped up to thank the day’s speakers and all who attended the highly successful event.

The results have been collated from all of the tables and whilst we have a very long list of individual issues the clear favourite was more education and awareness so that women both seek earlier diagnosis and treatment and we break down the taboos surrounding gynaecological health.

Wellbeing of Women would like to thank everybody for attending this very special event and for their continuing support and generosity.

We are also extremely grateful to Sanofi Pasteur for sponsoring this year’s debate.
