The value of predicting restriction of fetal growth and compromise of its wellbeing

If a baby's growth is restricted and its well-being is impaired in the womb the baby has a significant risk of disease, disability or death. At present there is a lack of precise evidence on how best to diagnose and predict such problems early enough in pregnancy. This research project will use scientific methods and strategies to review and appraise the existing evidence on diagnostic tests. As a result it will:

Provide women and health care professionals with reliable information on effective ways of identifying unborn babies at risk of problems with growth and well-being.
Enable doctors and midwives to provide better antenatal care for women and their babies.
Point the way for further research into preventing problems in babies at risk.
