We were joined by best-selling author and comedian Adam Kay for a delicious lunch at the stylish Avenue, St James on Tuesday 30 April thanks to our wonderful sponsors Accenture.
Adam shot to fame after the release of his novel This is Going to Hurt based on diary entries as doctor, and at the lunch guests were treated to excerpts from his time training in Obs and Gynae.
The talk was followed by a Q&A with Eve Pollard, Wellbeing of Women’s Vice Chair, and Adam took questions from the audience.
Despite a traumatic event forcing Adam to leave the profession, the now-comedian confessed he missed life on the wards and hopes to return one day.
He said: “I miss it, I miss helping people.
“But I hope that by speaking up for my colleague in medicine we can provide a better working environment so that they can provide better care to their patients.
“Often we don’t talk about these things. You do need to talk to people because you can’t do your best for people if you don’t look after yourself…doctors are still human.”
A huge thank you to everyone who came along, bought a raffle and made a donation. Together we can make a huge difference to the lives of women and their families, everywhere.
