Entry-level Research Scholarships

Our 2020 Entry-level Research Scholarships round is now CLOSED.

Our Entry-level Research Scholarships round is now CLOSED and will open again in summer 2020.

Applicants to the current round will be informed of the outcome of their application by the end of February.

Entry-level Research Scholarships (ELS) are support graduates to develop research interests in  basic science, clinical or translational research in one of the following areas:

  • Pregnancy, birth and the postpartum period
  • Gynaecological cancers
  • General wellbeing surrounding women’s health issues

Scholarships are a maximum of £20,000 and are awarded, normally for up to one year, to contribute to salary and/or research costs. The research must be undertaken in the UK or Ireland.

The aim of these awards is to provide ‘pump-priming’ funds to enable candidates to be exposed to a research environment, or to obtain pilot data for bids for definitive funding. Applicants would normally be new to the research discipline, and will not previously have been heavily involved in substantial or funded research projects.

An ELS is not intended as a ‘top-up’ for existing grants. Its primary purpose is to support a single individual and their research.

Example application form and guidelines can be downloaded on the right. Our standard Terms and Conditions can be found here.
