Carol Vorderman supports the Menopause Workplace Pledge
TV star opens up about her menopause experience seven years ago, as she backs the campaign

In a new video, TV personality Carol Vorderman has spoken out about her difficult menopause experience, revealing that she became "anxious" and went through a “deep depression” in 2015.
Carol is an Ambassador for Wellbeing of Women and is backing the charity's Menopause Workplace Pledge campaign, which is raising awareness of the menopause as a workplace issue.
Sadly, a million women have quit their jobs due to the menopause. But since the campaign launched six months ago,
over 600 employers have made the pledge and many are putting into place menopause policies, guidance, training and support groups for millions of workers across the country.
“There was one particular year, 2015, when I started to become anxious and then a deep depression overwhelmed me for four months. There was nothing going wrong in my life at all. I love my life, I love life, so I couldn’t quite work out what it was. Eventually I realised that it was tied into the menstrual cycle.”
women will experience menopause symptoms, such as low mood, anxiety, fatigue, loss of
concentration, and hot flushes. For some these will be severe enough to impact
on daily life. It is in the workplace where people can struggle the most with symptoms.
“I am shocked to be honest that an estimated one million women have given up work because of these feelings that they have in the workplace, or have reduced their hours at work or given up a promotion at a time in their late 40s and in their 50s when they should just be reaching the pinnacle of their careers. It has to stop," urges Carol.
“I am delighted to be an Ambassador for the charity Wellbeing of Women, who have campaigned for this and work with many employers and are planning on working with many more, with their Menopause Workplace Pledge.
"I am giving my full support to it and I hope that you can give your support too.”
The campaign, which launched in collaboration with HELLO! Magazine and Bupa, has drawn support from a range of organisations, including FTSE 100 companies, supermarkets, banks, law firms, schools, universities, department stores and even London Zoo.
By taking the pledge, these employers have pledged to provide menopause support to their workforce.
