PRUK-NEW

Wellbeing of Women-Pharmacy Research UK Partnership Research Project Grants (RG) support independent researchers and their teams to carry out research lasting up to three years and costing up to £100,000. Funds may only be used for directly incurred research costs.

This call will cover clinical and translational medical research looking at the practice of pharmacy and pharmacists or exploring the role pharmacists can play in delivering the best possible patient benefit for women, girls and babies.

The scope for proposals is not limited, other than by the focus of women’s reproductive and gynaecological health, however, topics that could be addressed include:

  • The education of pharmacists related to safe prescribing in pregnancy and/or providing easy access to advice about prescribing in pregnancy.
  • How pharmacists can support and offer a safe space for women to discuss pelvic floor health postnatally.
  • How pharmacists can support women seeking medicine, support and advice during the menopause.
  • The role of pharmacists in providing analgesia for painful periods.
  • Knowledge, attitudes and uptake of vaginal HRT tablets prescribed by pharmacists for the treatment of Genitourinary Syndrome of Menopause (GSM).

The call will not cover pure laboratory-based research, although an element of such research may be considered as part of a wider application. Proposed work is expected to have clinical relevance within 5 years from the end of the project.

A total of £100,000 will be made available for this call, divided equally between Wellbeing of Women and Pharmacy Research UK. £100,000 will be the maximum which any individual application can request. Both funders reserve the right to offer a reduced amount on the advice of peer review.

Awards are intended to support independent researchers leading their own work at recognised Universities or NHS Trusts in the UK. Applications are encouraged from multi-disciplinary teams.

We support collaborative research projects, especially between academic and industry researchers, although the contracted grant (and associated funding arrangements) will be with the lead applicant's institution. Collaborations with industry are not restricted to UK-based companies. Named academic/clinical collaborators are permitted from outside the UK, but the lead applicant must be UK based.
