With menopause occurring on average at the age of 45-55, facing this transition before then can be a huge adjustment for women.
Around 1 in 20 women will go through early menopause and stop having periods before the age of 45. Around 1 in 100 women stop having periods before the age of 40, due to a condition known as premature ovarian insufficiency (POI). Early menopause can happen naturally, or can be caused by treatments for other conditions.
For women facing this phase of life earlier than they thought they would, the normal challenges of menopause, like managing symptoms, loss of fertility and psychological significance, are magnified.
Join us as Prof Dame Lesley Regan speaks to two women who have experienced early menopause – Emma Neville and Victoria Walkden – and discusses the causes of, and management options for, early menopause and POI with Dr Ellie Cannon.
Topics they’ll explore include:
· What can cause early menopause?
· How can the physical symptoms be managed?
· How can women navigate this phase of life earlier than expected?
