Dr Stephen Quinn smiling on a leather sofa

Stephen was a consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist who was dedicated to women’s health.

With donations made in memory of Stephen, Wellbeing of Women will help to continue his commitment to women’s health, by supporting the development of the next generation of researchers and doctors.

Stephen spent his career dedicated to womens’ health, starting from his medical school elective when he encountered the impact of obstetric complications first hand. As well as being a dedicated doctor, he was a lovely dad, husband, son, brother, uncle and friend and we will all miss him very much. Stephen's Family

To celebrate the life and legacy of Dr Stephen Quinn, Lucy Hayes and her family took on the Beachy Head Challenge in October 2025. Together, they ran a combined total of 62 kilometres in support of Wellbeing of Women.

Their challenge is a heartfelt tribute to Dr Quinn’s extraordinary dedication to women’s health and the profound impact he had on their lives. Lucy and her family shared the following words about what this challenge means to them.

“There are not enough words to thank Dr. Stephen Quinn for all that he did. He performed major surgery to my abdomen during the pandemic and provided continuous follow-up care that changed my life and supported my family through one of the most difficult and challenging times. I will never forget his kindness, empathy, and compassion. Every member of staff at St Mary’s spoke so fondly of him, his reputation and popularity were unmatched. I vividly remember him running into the hospital at 6am the morning after my surgery just to check on me. His level of care was truly exceptional and he always went above and beyond in everything he did. Dr. Quinn continued to care for me in the Gold Antenatal Clinic, offering unwavering support and reassurance throughout our pregnancy journey. He was a doctor like no other. Without Dr. Quinn, our baby’s life may never have been. We cannot imagine life without Ezra now, and I feel so incredibly lucky and grateful every day for the precious gift of motherhood. Dr Quinn was a true hero to countless women and their families and he is deeply missed by all who knew him - Thank you, Dr. Quinn, from the bottom of my heart.”

"Family is the most important thing to me and Dr Quinn was instrumental in enabling my sister to have baby Ezra. Without his help it might not have been possible for my sister to give birth so I’m running the marathon in memory of him and to support the Wellbeing of Women charity” - Andrew Hayes, Lucy's brother

"Mr Quinn cared for our daughter in the most difficult time at the end of the pandemic with so much kindness and expertise we are forever grateful that Lucy was able to give birth to the most beautiful baby and everything that Mr Quinn did to support our family will always live on with us. We hope to give something small back to help others in the future and thank Mr Quinn with all our hearts x” - Anita Hayes, Lucy’s

His legacy will never be forgotten

Mr Quinn was the kindest and most approachable man – as a newly qualified midwife he was always looking out for me and making sure I was okay during very busy Gold team clinics! His legacy will never be forgotten at St Mary’s.
