Help close the glaring gap in health outcomes for women from marginalised communities
Double your donations as part of this years’ Big Give’
Wellbeing of Women have launched a campaign to raise £20,000 to fund research and advocacy projects to reduce health inequalities for women from diverse communities, such as those from black and Asian backgrounds. The Big Give has pledged to double every donation to help Wellbeing of Women reach this goal as part of this years’ Big Give Women and Girls Match Fund.
Black women are four times more likely to die in pregnancy, childbirth and the six weeks after, disabled women struggle to access life-saving screenings and women from ethnic minority backgrounds find themselves dismissed, with dangerous delays to getting treatment.
“Every time I see a doctor or walk into a surgery, it feels like the doors are never truly open for me to unlock. It’s as though I’m fumbling around for the right key, but the people on the other side aren’t really listening or helping me find it. Unfortunately, this isn’t just my experience - it’s a shared struggle for many individuals from marginalised communities, who often feel overlooked and unheard when seeking care.”

We are investing in research and advocacy to address these inequalities: for example, by funding studies to ensure pregnant women with sickle cell disease, which is particularly common in people with an African or Caribbean family background, can manage their symptoms effectively and safely, to improving contraceptive services for ethnic minority communities across the UK.
Our Health Collective has emerged out of the urgent need to do more to ensure all girls and women receive the best care, regardless of their background or the community they belong to. It is made up of and led by grassroots organisations, representing women’s voices from every marginalised community in our society.
