Wellbeing of Women respond to the prioritisation of menopause and menstrual health in NHS Online roll out
Janet Lindsay, Chief Executive at Wellbeing of Women, said:
“We know that women and girls can face unacceptably long delays in accessing care for difficult menstrual health symptoms and menopause, so we welcome the NHS providing easier and quicker access to care. For too long, conditions such as heavy menstrual bleeding, adenomyosis, endometriosis and fibroids have been dismissed or overlooked, leaving many suffering in silence, with their lives put on hold.
It’s encouraging to see the Government taking innovative steps to reduce waiting lists and improve access. To make this truly effective, the new system should be co-designed with women to ensure it works for everyone. Some women, particularly those from marginalised communities, may face barriers to digital access, so it’s vital that opting out of online systems never results in being pushed to the back of the queue.
We’d love to see this as part of a broader commitment to women’s health—one that delivers culturally intelligent care, takes women’s pain seriously, invests in research, and tackles inequality.”
