Wellbeing of Women responds to emergency contraception becoming free in pharmacies

The NHS has recently announced that emergency contraception will become available in pharmacies in a bid to end the postcode lottery to access it.

Responding to the news that emergency contraception will become free in pharmacies across England, Janet Lindsay, CEO of Wellbeing of Women, said: "We welcome the government's announcement that emergency contraception (EC) will now be available free of charge at community pharmacies across England. Access to emergency contraception is a crucial step in empowering women to be in control of their reproductive health. Making it freely available at pharmacies will reduce the postcode lottery, ensuring more women access the care that they need. This will be especially important for women from communities that are less likely to access EC, for financial reasons or those related to cultural stigma.
