Let's close the health gap for women from marginalised communities
We are calling for the new government to close the glaring gap in health outcomes for women from marginalised communities.
Black women are four times more likely and South Asian women twice as likely to die in pregnancy and childbirth. Asian women are much more likely to be diagnosed with late-stage ovarian cancer, and disabled women struggle to access life-saving cervical cancer screening. This data is just the tip of the iceberg. And this is unacceptable in 2024.
That’s why The Health Collective, a group of grassroots organisations raising the voices of women from marginalised communities, are joining together to call for urgent action.

It’s time to #CloseTheHealthGap and ensure all women have access to healthcare.
What are we calling for?
- Cultural competency training for healthcare professionals, so that they can effectively engage with people from different backgrounds and respond to their health needs
- NHS Women’s healthcare information and communication to be designed for diverse communities, so that everyone can understand and advocate for themselves
- The Government working with grassroots organisations who have built trust and support in their communities to overcome women’s health inequalities in marginalised groups
- Increased visibility and involvement of marginalised communities in women’s health research and data collection so that prevention, diagnosis, and treatments in the future are effective for everyone.
