Let’s Talk Maternal Mental Health-image

As many as 1 in 5 women experience mental illness during pregnancy or after birth. If left untreated, mental health issues can have long-lasting effects on a woman, her baby, and wider family.

To mark Maternal Mental Health Awareness Week, our webinar will focus on the mental health issues that many women can face before, during and after pregnancy and treatment, care and support available.

Our panel includes experts who will talk through common issues, signs to watch out for, and how and when to seek help.

Dr Abigail Easter is a senior lecturer in maternal and newborn health, her research focuses on maternal morbidity and mortality among women with mental illness and bridging the gap between maternity and mental healthcare services. Dr Easter will be joined by Victoria May-Mills, who will talk about her own journey with postnatal depression and anxiety through two pregnancies and how this has led to her current role supporting women as a Senior Peer Support Worker in Hertfordshire Community Perinatal Team.

Our webinar aims to raise awareness of and support women and their families to better understand maternal mental health and help those affected to get the care and support they need.
