Preventing Cervical Cancer

The first webinar of the year will be exploring how we can prevent cervical cancer, to coincide with Cervical Cancer Prevention Week.

There are nearly 3,200 new cases of cervical cancer every year. It is a cancer that is found anywhere in the cervix, which is the opening between the vagina and the womb.

Cervical screening, also known as a smear test, helps to prevent cervical cancer from developing and can save thousands of lives every year. But uptake of the test has dropped in recent years, and remains low among women from black, Asian and minority ethnic backgrounds.

So what can we do to protect ourselves from this cancer?

Our Chair Professor Dame Lesley Regan will be speaking to Ms Theresa Freeman-Wang, a consultant gynaecologist at the Whittington Health NHS Trust, where she is lead for the unit level gynaecology oncology service. They will be joined by Hannah Dwyer, a Support Services Officer for Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust, the UK’s leading cervical cancer charity.
