Supporting a Workforce Impacted by Menopause in Non-Office Roles-image

This webinar is for every employee and employer working in a non-office environment. This can bring a unique set of challenges and considerations when thinking about menopause at work.

Hosted by menopause expert Diane Danzebrink, Diane will be joined by Joy Roberts-Chapple and Nicola Ceconi from The Forest of Marston Vale Trust, Joy is Marketing Officer and a Mental Health First Aider & Nicola is a Senior Ranger, also joining the discussion will be Zoe Irons from Wellbeing of Women and Liz Cunningham from Menopause Reality.

We will discuss:

Understanding the Challenges:

  • Retail & Beauty/Hairdressing: Long hours on feet, customer-facing roles, and temperature control issues.
  • Healthcare & Care Work: Shift work, lack of breaks, uniforms, responsibilities (e.g. medications) emotional and physical demands.
  • Factory & Manual Work: Physically demanding roles, exposure to extreme temperatures, lack of access to private spaces, health and safety issues

Practical Solutions & Best Practice:

  • Adjusting uniform policies to accommodate temperature regulation needs.
  • Introducing flexible scheduling or micro-breaks for symptom management.
  • Creating accessible support networks or menopause champions within the workforce.
  • Providing menopause training for managers to increase awareness and understanding.
  • Practical adjustments to workplace environments (e.g., fans, hydration stations, better access to rest areas).
  • Encouraging open conversations to normalise discussions around menopause in different workplace cultures.
  • Showcase companies that have successfully implemented menopause-friendly policies in non-office settings.
  • Discuss the impact and benefits observed in those workplaces.

You can email questions for the speakers in advance to zirons@wellbeingofwomen.org.uk.

This webinar is one of a series of five on menopause in the workplace, organised as part of the Menopause Xplored project.

We are working with Menopause Reality, a multi-film immersive project from Forward Slash Films, sharing individual stories of women's experiences of the menopause in the workplace, viewed in VR headsets. Workshops will be delivered by leading menopause expert Diane Danzebrink from Menopause Support.

Menopause Xplored has been developed by Wellbeing of Women and is funded through the VCSE Health and Wellbeing Fund. This is part of a partnership programme between the Department of Health and Social Care, NHS England and the UK Health Security Agency.
