Workshops for young people
Wellbeing of Women has trialled workshops for girls and young women to educate them on their menstrual health. Our first educational workshop was in January 2024 in London and was attended by HRH the Duchess of Edinburgh, our Royal Patron.
The January 2024 workshop educated pupils on what a ‘normal’ period looks like and informed them about conditions such as adenomyosis, fibroids and PCOS, as well as when and how to ask for medical help. Her Royal Highness spoke to the pupils about their experiences dealing with periods and heard about the “Just a Period” campaign launched in September 2023 by Wellbeing of Women.
The workshops aim to empower girls to understand their bodies and know when to seek help. Too many women say that they only pluck up the courage to seek help years after first experiencing period problems. Early education will reduce unnecessary suffering for countless girls and women, and if boys learn about women’s bodies and periods, young people will foster a new culture of change and openness.
We hope to roll out a series of workshops in late 2025 for girls and young women and their peers to educate and empower them about women’s health.
Together we can end the shame, stigma and silence around women’s health.
