Our research funding dashboard

You can use this tool to find out more about the projects we have funded over the last 60 years.

  • How much have we invested in women’s health research?
  • What research projects are we funding?
  • Where are our research projects based?
  • How is our funding distributed across different stages of women’s lives, such as menstrual health, pregnancy and childbirth, and menopause?
  • How have the answers to these questions changed since Wellbeing of Women's first research grant in 1964?

Explore our research funding dashboard to find the answers to these and other questions, including an interactive map of the UK.

Several of the research projects listed are linked to detailed stories on our website, highlighting their impact on the lives of women, girls and babies. Learn more about the lifechanging impact of our research over the last 60 years here.

The dashboard is optimised for and best viewed on a desktop, laptop or tablet computer. While it is possible to view the dashboard on smaller mobile devices, it is not advised due to the small screen size.

Further notes on the data are available under the dashboard.

Support women's health research

Research into women's health is chronically underfunded.

We are the only UK charity funding all of women's reproductive and gynaecological health.

Your donation will support our work to find new cures, tests and treatments to save and change the lives of women, girls and babies.

Notes on the data:

The dashboard provides information on all the research projects we have funded and are funding right now. The figures will fluctuate as projects start and end. Funding amounts have been adjusted for inflation (calculated in 2024) using calculations based on CPI data with 1964 as the baseline. This gives a better representation of the amount of investment we have made to date and our dedication to saving and changing lives. For example, in 1978 we invested £27,550 - the equivalent of £148,845 if awarded in 2024 - into development of one of the first artificial surfactants, paving the way for surfactant replacement therapy, where preterm babies with respiratory distress syndrome receive surfactant into their lungs shortly after birth to help them breath. This modest research grant, even in today’s money, supported critical early steps in developing this life-saving treatment, now standard treatment worldwide, for the tiniest and most vulnerable babies to survive and thrive.

Our funding reach across the UK and worldwide

Our research grant funding is always linked to a single institute on the dashboard; however, you can see how our funding has contributed towards research efforts worldwide on the maps below, which show organisations that have participated in research funded or co-funded by Wellbeing of Women.

The maps show the location of all organisations that have participated in research funded or co-funded by Wellbeing of Women from 1964-2024.
